about therebychance
"therebychance" is a personal web site. I use it as a repository for images, photographs, thoughts, etc., that caught my interest. If there’s a bias toward content on Hawaii and Japan, that’s because it’s where I spent most of my time.
As the father of four children, I know well the difference between their perspectives and mine when we look at the photos or images from the past. I often feel there's little chance that they will ever see or feel exactly the same things I do, because my history is my own as is theirs, and it's just for that fleeting moment in time that we share together that creates some commonality.
That intrigues me since people talk about events, iconic images, art, or even scientific facts with the assumption that somehow everyone is perceiving the same thing. Yet differences emerge depending on the context, time, and conditions of our encounters.
"therebychance" just records some of that and what I thought at the time. As for the format, this is not a blog. I could never be a blog writer. I tend to write something, come back to it later, work it into a form I can accept, and after time has passed, return to it again for possibly more revision. Or more likely, I’ll leave it alone because I’m lazy that way. The same thing is true for the images.
Regarding the photos, most of them were made with a small pocket camera, so pardon the less-than-stellar quality. Maybe one day I'll have better tools to work with.
All images and text (except where credited) in this web site come from my hand and mind, and with that, my opinions and errors, so I welcome any feedback as well as the courtesy of contacting me before using images and content for any purpose. (Please use the contact page.)
